At Relais & Châteaux Weeshuis Gouda, we celebrate femininity where it begins; in strength, softness, beauty and togetherness. This year, our stage is the mimosa tree, planted with love at our opening five years ago. Now five meters tall. Radiant, gentle, yet unmistakably present. Just like the seven nuns who founded the former convent in 1542 – the place where we now gather to celebrate life together.
In Italy, women give each other a sprig of mimosa on International Women’s Day. Not as a romantic gesture. Not as decoration. But as a symbol of female strength, solidarity and independence.
Our mimosa tree blooms early, boldly, and without permission. She grows where she wants. She stands out. She stays. And that’s exactly why she takes center stage this weekend. In fragnance, color, flavor, and experience.

Women Only Lunch
On March 7 & 8, in celebration of International Women’s Day, we invite you to a delightful Women Only Mimosa Lunch at Coffee & Cocktailbar COCO. A moment to come together, indulge, and celebrate – with flavors as sunny as the blooming mimosa intself.
The menu:
- A delicious seasonal soup
- A fresh salad including: smoked salmon, yellow zucchini, boiled egg, curry dressing, orange and aged Gouda Cheese
- Baguette with herb butter
- Our signature Mimosa Cocktail
- Mango-passionfruit bavarois

Mimosa Wreath Workshop
Create your own mimosa wreath & celebrate femininity!
The workshop begins with a warm welcome of coffee or tea. After, Jan-Willem – our talented and ever-charming florist, who has become a familiar and beloved face to us all – will host a two-hour workshop.
He will bring all materials and supplies needed. The result? A radiant, vibrant yellow wreath, complete with ribbon, ready to shine on your front door. Hello spring!

Flower Stand
In addition to all activities, you’re invited to visit our cozy flower stand on Sunday, March 8, between 10:30 and 1:30pm. We will be selling beautiful mimosa sprigs – the symbol of strength, warmth and appreciation. A small gesture with great meaning. Surprise your mother, grandmother, sister, friend, colleague, or that one special woman in your life.
Alongside the flowers, you can also enjoy delicious cookies from La Biscuiterie. Perfect as a gift… or to treat yourself and enjoy them with a lovely cup of coffee.
