A magical visit to Gouda surrounded by candlelight! One of the oldest festivals of light in the Netherlands, the start of the Christmas season! On the evening of 15 December, 1,500 candles will burn behind the windows of the historic Town Hall. You will enjoy all kinds of activities this evening. The highlight is the lighting of the lights in the Christmas tree between 19:00 and 20:00. Gouda always receives the Christmas tree as a gift from its Norwegian sister city Kongsberg. Those who don’t believe in magic, will never find it!
You will arrive in a romantically lit Gouda on 14 December. Here, you will receive a warm welcome with a hot drink and a Gouda delicacy. In our courtyard, enjoy various performances and the warmth, offered by the Weeshuis. The Weeshuis is centrally located, the centre of the party noise. Stay in our courtyard or explore all Gouda has to offer. For dinner, we recommend booking a table in our fine dining restaurant LIZZ*. End the day with a wonderful night in our rooms.
On 15 December, enjoy a sumptuous breakfast in our beautiful and most historic Regentenkamer. Afterwards, be surprised by the most beautiful Christmas market in a beautifully lit church De Sint Jan. At 16:00 you will be met at our fine-dining restaurant LIZZ * for an amazing culinary evening. After a warm welcome, you will enjoy an exclusive 4-course dinner by star chef Remco Kuijpers and his team. Around 18:30, you will walk towards the Market Square so that you can enjoy the magical lighting of the Christmas tree at 19:00.
